outstanding in the field

So while this may be embarrassing to admit, I feel as though I can do so to you.  I have literally been counting down the days until the farmer’s market in Boston opens for months.  It opens in less than 2 weeks and now that the sunshine is out,  I am getting even more excited over the idea of walking out my door and sourcing locally grown produce for my kitchen.  As you know there is nothing healthier or more rich in minerals than freshly picked produce that has not traveled far to get to you.

Where the summers in Boston are so short this concept of fresh local produce and al fresco entertaining is what I crave.  One day I hope to have a large outdoor patio that can host a large group of friends and family on a regular basis for al fresco parties filled with fresh local ingredients {and free flowing wine of course!}.

I came across this Farm Dinner on Style Me Pretty and after learning more about Outstanding in the Field, I am enamored by the concept and had to immediately share it with you!!   Outstanding in the Field {established in 1999 by chef and artist Jim Denevan} has a mission to ‘ re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it’.  They define themselves as a restaurant without walls.  Offering dinners on stunning farm properties around the world prepared by chefs in partnership with the farmers {based on what’s ready to eat on the farm}.

While they now host dinners around the world, this farm dinner was hosted in Toronto and captured by the talented Anais + Dax.

How fun does this long serpent communal table look?  Would be lovely for a garden wedding setting as well.

Just lovely, right?

And should you be as inspired by this as I am, they have a North American tour from now through November covering the entire country, so you can attend one of these dinners and enjoy a beautiful summer evening.  The overall city schedule and on-line reservation link is available here, so grab your foodie friends and go enjoy a fabulous farm dinner where you can eat {local}, drink and be merry!
