Oscar festivities

Happy happy Friday!

I hope you have some exciting plans to look forward to this weekend, and I wonder if like me, you are carving out time to watch the Oscars on Sunday evening?  The fashion inspiration and glamour of the production is something I look forward to every year and plan to spend a cozy evening in watching and taking it all in as Ellen DeGenerous undoubtedly makes us laugh.

If you have not seen it yet, People Magazine published Wolfgang Puck’s menu for the Governors Ball post-Oscars party.  He has quite the spread planned for the stars’ party and you can see it here through the documentation of his photos on instagram.  It will be his 20th year of catering the governor’s ball, and to commemorate this milestone he will add a Hollywood Themed cake to the dessert party’s display.

Since I have yet to be on the invite list {can you imagine being a guest at the Oscars?},  I hosted an intimate dinner party at my place for the Oscar’s last year, it was lovely to sit and dine and watch the red carpet unfold as well as the show itself.  I also love the idea of setting up a self-serve food station and serving small bites throughout the course of the evening.  If you watch the red carpet you are talking about a 6 hour commitment end to end, so why not stagger food throughout that time?  Here are some fun ideas to help you with an Oscar’s soiree at home which includes:

Oscars 2014 Soiree

1 | Dress up your bar with these black and white striped straws
2 | A square serving platter, would be perfect for Wolfgang Puck’s signature smoked salmon pizza with dill and caviar.
3 | Cocktail napkins that would work well for any cocktail party but love them for an Oscar’s party
4 | An elegant glass for your kir royale’s
5 | A fabulous ice bucket to chill your champagne
6 | An incredible assortment of flavored popcorn made easy with Dell Cove Spices, they have over 30 different innovative flavors to choose from including: Country Fair Dill Pickle, Margarita, Pumpkin Pie, and Parmesan cheese + Italian spices to name a few.

Kir Royale is such a classic and elegant celebratory cocktail fit for an Oscars celebration.  Here is how to perfect the this lovely bubbly libation.

 Kir Royale

1 ounce crème de cassis
4 1/2 ounces Champagne brut, chilled {you can also use an extra dry Prosecco as an alternative}
Lemon twist for garnish

Pour the crème de cassis into a chilled 6-ounce champagne glass.  Top slowly with chilled bubbly.  Garnish with a short strip of lemon peel.  Make sure you twist the lemon peel over the glass to release the oils into the drink.

Cheers and Happy Weekend!
