Why yes Oscar de la Renta, you can dress my table!

We all know {and in most cases LOVE} Oscar de la Renta’s designs especially after seeing Amy Adams in his elegantly designed light blue strapless couture gown on Sunday night during the Oscars, but did you know he is just as concerned about an elegant home and table when entertaining?  This is what fueled his new home and entertaining collection which launched this month at Bloomingdales and will launch next month in his boutiques & on  on-line.

In January’s edition of Architectural Digest they featured the designer & his collection and explained that the collection was inspired by his beachside retreat in Punta Cana, {in his native Dominican Republic} with blue and white hues as well as several influences from his fashion collection such as the dip-dyed technique which he has used on silk dresses as well as an enlarged floral pattern taken from a ’70s dress of his {the red and white below behind the champagne urn}.  Blue and white table settings to me say oceanside, summer and al fresco, and I think this collection would be absolutely perfect for an alfresco summer dinner event.

The collection includes over 100 pieces including:  beautiful & simple blue-and-white linens, stoneware dishes hand-painted with splashes of blue hues, ocean inspired bottle openers and stoppers, hurricane lanterns, champagne buckets, flatware with resin handles, resin trays & julep cups.

What’s great about this collection is that you can layer in 1 piece or 1 accessory to an all white table or even other blue and white pieces you already have to make a statement.  Something like this cod pitcher below would be a lovely addition to a summer table.

And because I love all things coral, thought this accessory was worth sharing with you.  A coral bottle stopper {you will also see turtle bottle openers, salt and pepper shakers and other great pieces to accessorize your table}.

He even took entertaining to the next level including, luxe playing cards, dominoes, and backgammon sets for a night of healthy competition.  What didn’t he think of?

And if these pieces have inspired you but are too pricey for your liking, you can find beautiful blue and white tableware at vintage markets, EtsyCrate & Barrel and West Elm, who has some fabulous blue & white Ikat linen napkins and adorable hand painted dinnerware {currently on sale!!}.  It doesn’t take much to make a statement with blue & white when done right.

May your days of sun, summer & ocean be closer than you think  & may you enjoy far more al fresco dinners than you would have ever imagined.
