Inspired: Great Gatsby | part one

When I heard that there was going to be another version of the movie classic The Great Gatsby launching in May, I was thrilled.  This has been a favorite of mine for a while and certainly my favorite in high school.   While not the happiest of endings, the glamour, fabulous 20’s fashion, women’s independence, and lavish parties hosted by Jay Gatsby, are absolutely an inspiration.

With the movie re-launching this spring, I am strongly considering hosting a Gatsby party, which would include all guests {and the hostess} dressing the part.  Ideally the setting would be outside with long beautiful tables dressed in white linens with white lights strung above however below are some ideas for hosting a chic Great Gatsby themed party Jay Gatsby style anywhere {even in a small city flat}.

Entertaining like Jay Gatsby

Row 1: Custom invitations via Etsy,  given how well done the parties were in the movie, why not go formal with your invites? / Lots of champagne should flow and I loved the embellishments on these crystal champagne coupes / I envision a menu with a plethora of passed hors d’oeuvres.  These purple potato chips with creme fraîche & caviar would be an elegant option to include.  Get the recipe here.

Row 2: Mint Juleps are a must at this party {image via pintrest} you can find the recipe for this classic cocktail here / These mint silver plate julep cups from Williams Sonoma can be monogrammed.  Would be a nice detail when serving your guests.

Row 3: I would serve pretty much everything on silver trays {cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and mini desserts}.   You can scour vintage markets for beautiful finds at low prices or search Etsy where there is a large selection of vintage trays available as well.

Row 4: For dessert chocolate covered cherries {image} and mini fruit tarts are a must to include / You can find the recipe for these healthy/vegan/raw mini blackberry tarts here {how fabulous that these are super healthy too!!?}.

Row 5:  If you have the space for it, croquet would be fabulous entertainment for your guests, so be sure to have a croquet set on hand / I also loved this favor from a wedding featured on the always lovely 100 layer cake blog.  It is a small bottle of bourbon {main ingredient in a mint julep} for guests to take home.  You could actually create custom labels and bottle your favorite brand yourself.  They can also have guests names on them and serve as escort cards to your tables as you’ll see in the images below.  I love how they created the tables with white linens, simple flowers, textured glass and a string of lights to set the scene.

You can have so much fun with a Gatsby theme because there is such great content & style  from an entertaining and set perspective not to mention the fashion element!!
