inspired: designer luke aaron + fashion show tickets giveaway

Today I am really excited to share the inside world of Boston emerging designer Luke Aaron with you.  Luke is a Boston based designer with a lovely showroom located in the historic North End.  His collection ranges from ready to wear pieces such as pants, skirts and tailored jackets to evening wear, gowns and bridal gowns.

After only 2 years of designing his own line he was named best local designer by Boston Magazine and Boston’s Best designer by the Improper Bostonian.  The Improper Bostonian also nicknamed him “the Messiah of Drapery” which I would have to agree with.  His attention to detail and craftsmanship is exquisite.  As a person he possesses an unparalleled level of depth and class that in turn shows through in his collections.  And as a designer with experience designing stage sets and show costumes for Broadway productions, you can understand how the drama and fantasy comes through in his own work.

Before I met Luke I was very much into wearing straight lines and mostly black – always.  But when I tried on my first Luke Aaron dress, I knew my way of dressing would never be the same again – I had never felt so fabulous.  His pieces have a way of making you feel like Cinderella going to the ball and living a fairytale, or as glamourous as Sarah Jessica Parker.  We joke that one of my favorite skirts from his Spring 2013 collection {which I shared on instagram a few weeks ago} is just as lovely worn to the grocery store as it is to an evening out {it is!}.

I was meeting with him in his showroom last week to discuss our current projects, and was able to ask him some questions about himself, his brand and his upcoming Spring/Summer 14 collection launching next month during New York Fashion week, and in October during Boston Fashion Week {read on to see how you can enter to win 2 tickets to his fashion show during Boston Fashion week}.

I think you’ll agree with me by the end of this post that this is a designer on his way to accomplishing amazing things.

How long have you been designing?
I designed theater costumes for seven years throughout college and graduate school, and continued to do so after moving to New York in 2009.  I started designing my line {Luke Aaron} in 2011.

Tell me a little bit about Luke Aaron as a brand?
My brand is based on the belief that great clothes should delight & inspire the wearer. The ready to wear is all about bringing charm and levity to clothing that is also functional for a broad range of occasions.  The gowns represent more of the fantasy of fashion; that child-like desire to dress up like a beautiful princess or glamourous movie star.

Where do you find your inspiration for your collections?
I like to think of the character, or muse, who wears the clothes each season.  A lot of the inspiration for that comes from film and literature – I often reference historical clothing that one might imagine on dramatic figures from past decades.

Who are you inspired by?
I’m really intrigued by the archetypal eccentric.  The idea of the voyager also very appealing to me-this figure who boldly travels to foreign places and reflects this in her wardrobe.

What should we be most excited about from your upcoming SS14 collection?
I’m using some lovely embellished fabrics this season.  I love how intricate embroideries and delicate draping work against more structured tailoring.

What is your favorite restaurant or dish in the North End {your showroom neighborhood}?
Volle Nolle has a delicious salmon sandwich.

This September will be Luke’s first time hosting a presentation during New York Fashion week which is very exciting, and then he will show at Boston Fashion week in October.

***Today YOU can enter to win 2 tickets to his invitation only show which will be held on Friday October 4th in Boston.  All you need to do is like his page on Facebook, and leave a comment on this post about which one of the styles featured below is your favorite, and I will select a winner on Monday at 5pm.
