hosting a fall dinner party | what to make & wear

ahhh that crisp fall air.  While I never pretend to enjoy the cooler weather, I do enjoy the cozy-ness that comes with Fall. It’s a great time to host dinner parties at home and enjoy ingredients from the farmer’s markets that take us well into November.

While the desire for comfort food kicks in with cooler temperatures, I still work to create fulfilling warm meals that are healthy. This week I have been planning for an upcoming dinner party and have put together a menu that includes a fabulous seasonal ceviche, a comforting millet risotto which I shared before – it has the texture of a pasta risotto with cheese, yet it is made with a grain and no dairy so it is very healthy, packed with nutrients and equally satisfying.  And for dessert we are going to indulge a bit – I couldn’t resist the cornucopia presentation and a chance to incorporate my favorite ice cream.

I have been gravitating towards navy blues, golds and white for a table scape color palette for Fall, and love the design of these menu cards available through paperless post which I will be setting at each place for the dinner.  I am planning a similar color palette for Thanksgiving this year as well {will share all Thanksgiving table details in a future post}.

In terms of a hostess outfit, I am going to keep it simple with a fun top and skinny black pants.

1 | I am loving Derek Lam 10 Crosby’s collection this season.  So effortlessly chic and wearable. This metallic floral shirt has just enough shimmer to make it the perfect dinner party top.
2 | These tassel earrings are just the right scale.  I love them for so many different looks.
3 | A fabulous wine bottle stopper is a hostess must have.  Kelly Wearstler’s are a work of art.
4 | These pants are so comfortable and versatile.  I love the zipper in the back and the leather side stripe detail {25% off}.
5 | This was my Fall go to lipstick last year and remains a favorite this year.  Very complimentary if you are someone who looks good with earthones.
6 | I am opting for flats for this dinner party.  These lace-ups by Loeffler Randall are a nice alternative.

Wishing you a beautiful Fall weekend!
