Christian Dior + Harrods

As if the overall experience of walking through/shopping at Harrods is not inspirational enough on it’s own, Wallpaper* Magazine recently featured a pretty fabulous collaboration between Christian Dior + Harrods taking place at this stunning London retailer.

The two brands have been in a “retail relationship” for almost 60-years, starting when Christian Dior himself inaugurated the Harrods fashion theatre in 1954.  And in celebration of that, the two brands have joined forces to transform the exterior of Harrod’s & the entire fourth floor with a series of shop in shop spaces, uber creative windows, a Dior exhibition as well as a pop-up café {what an incredible collaboration + project!!}.

The windows feature British inspiration by featuring Royal Beefeaters teamed with mannequins wearing Dior designs {designed today by creative director Raf Simons} as well as scenes incorporating London landmarks.

In terms of an exhibit there are unique photos of Dior along with sketches, iconic Dior dresses, an interactive digital book that tells the history of Dior {pretty awesome POS concept!  They should put one of these in each of their stores} along with personal notes and memorabilia from Dior’s archives.

A really cool detail is that when guests get to the fourth floor, visitors are greeted by a miniature replica of the façade of Dior’s Parisian headquarters.

This is the Dior headquarter building in Paris {can you imagine this being your office??!} fabulous!

The café at Harrods serves cupcakes with Dior fashion illustrations on the icing, black truffle omlettes and other recipes borrowed from a cookbook he {Dior} published in 1972 called La Cuisine Cousu-Main.  When it was originally published, only 4,000 copies were released, and now the only way to get a copy is to source a used one.  The cookbook features a collection of Dior’s favorite recipes {he was a passionate gourmand} along with illustrations famous fashion illustrator Rene Gruau {I would love to get my hands on this cookbook!!}.

And as if this is not enough to take in, they’ve come up with other programs to further enhance the installation including a Lady Dior bag design contest for young British designers, as well as mini-events throughout it’s duration like,  have your portrait sketched by a Dior artist, create a personalized a perfume bottle, along with a range of limited edition beauty products created specially for the collaboration.  This is a PR girl’s absolute dream!!

Have a great day!
