A brief hiatus

You must be thinking that I’ve forgotten about you!! I haven’t – and I am sorry for the brief hiatus. Things at POISE. have gotten really busy, and I’ve been consumed with several projects which has been exciting.  That, coupled with a mini winter escape to the West Coast that Ed planned for us for a few days, has kept me away from blogging.

I thought I would start back in today by sharing some highlights from our trip with you.

We stayed at the spectacular St.Regis in Monarch Beach which was heavenly.  The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable, the property was flawless with a golf course and 1.5 mile long private beach, the service was impeccable and more importantly incredibly friendly.  The food was excellent as well.  In addition to this being a wonderful place to escape to for a few days, this hotel would make a stunning venue for a Southern California wedding.

I took this photo of the pool just before it rained for a bit on our first day, which is why the sky looks so grey, however  I wanted to include it because it really gives you an idea of how beautiful the pool area is.  Sadly it was not quite warm enough to lay by the pool, but hopefully we’ll return when they are experiencing warmer weather.

During our time in California we took day trips and visited Malibu Beach, Santa Monica and Laguna Beach.  We had a few favorite spots that are worth sharing should Southern California be on your agenda ….

Kreation Juice Bar {Santa Monica} –  I think I may have had the best smoothie ever here – and Ed really enjoyed his as well.  They have cold pressed juices, healthy smoothies and raw food options all made with local and organic ingredients {I was absolutely in love with this place}.

Carmelita Kitchen {Laguna Beach} – We were hoping to go for good Mexican food one afternoon and the hotel concierge suggested we try this restaurant.  The ingredients they use are really fresh and they don’t skimp on herbs and flavor, which is what made our  meal so good.  Their ceviche is out of this world and the cucumber cilantro magarita was the best margarita I’ve had in a long time.

Nobu {Malibu Beach} – I’ve been lucky enough to go to Nobu in New York & Las Vegas for several business dinners and have actually hosted several media events in their New York locations since it is such a favorite among editors – the food at Nobu is Japanese at its best.  The location in Malibu beach which I had never been to is GORGEOUS!  It is right on the water with a balcony and patio boasting breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.  We went for Sunday brunch and the people watching was amazing.  This was a shot I took of the perfect table on their seaside balcony off of the dining room.  I wish we could eat there every Sunday!!

In addition to this trip, we are traveling to Turkey next month, so I wanted to get a travel uniform down for this year’s travel agenda.  Below is what I landed on and thought I’d share it with you.  Sometimes the simplest looks are the most difficult to achieve, but I do like simple, especially for long flights.  I went with an all black sporty look.  Black because airports are so dirty and sporty because you can still look great yet still be comfortable, however I love the look in all white as well,  so I’ve provided links for both color options along with two of my must haves during travel for my skin.

POISE. | travel style

1 | Alexander McQueen scarf.  I love softening an all black sporty look with blush pink and having a scarf on a flight for when it gets cold is a big help.

2 | I’m not sure where I’ve been all this time, but I recently tried J.Crew’s perfect tee and found they are so great for layering.  The quality is much better than I expected also.  The black can easily be dressed up or down.  In addition to this look, I paired it with white wide-leg pants and a pair of statement earrings for dinner one night. {25% off with code lightenup}

3 | When I met Rose-Marie Swift, founder of RMS Beauty and Gisele’s make-up artist, she introduced me to this Lip2Cheek color {illusive}.  It is a cream blush and lip color that goes on beautifully.  Not only is it made of organic ingredients that will feed your skin, it is a universal color that is a beautiful neutral on most skin tones.  I keep it in my travel bag for a touch up of lip color that looks good with everything and isn’t too glossy.  Since it dual purposes as a blush, it is incredibly practical for travel.  The color is a perfect neutral with just enough sheen for a dewy finished look.

4 | This chiffon/mesh panel layering jacket is the perfect balance of feminine and sporty.  It is also quite flattering with a drawstring waist and beautiful vented back with drawstring ties.  The photo doesn’t really do it much justice, but this piece is the hero of this whole outfit and is not only great for travel, but for a stylish weekend look.  Not to mention it’s now 40% off!!  It is also available in white {better image}.

5 |  A skinny pair of black pants can be re-purposed during your travels for an evening look with a great pump and sexy tank top.  They also look great with this outfit for travel.  I love this version with the zippers. For a more budget friendly option, try these, they are comfortable with perfectly placed seams, great quality, super comfortable and wear really well.

6 | Blush leather tote by Miu Miu.  Lightens up the look and is large enough to hold your travel essentials.  It makes for a great everyday bag during your trip {and after} as well!

7 | This hydrating accelerator by Josh Rosebrook is amazing.  It can be used as a toner, but I love to use it once I’ve applied my make-up to set it and give my skin a dewy look – not to mention to give it the extra moisture it needs, before, during and after the flight.  In addition to being a vitamin-infused aloe based product, the ingredients are all plant-based so it truly nourishes and hydrates your skin.  Some of the key ingredients include fennel seed which is a potent anti-inflammatory that firms the skin, along with Marshmallow Root which works to brighten your skin. {available in a 2 oz. travel size}

8 | Everything Kelly Wearstler designs has a cool factor – everything.  This ring is simple but cool and the perfect accessory for this look.

9 |  I don’t typically wear sneakers but I purchased these for the trip and absolutely LOVE them.  The all black version gives you a sleek sporty look and given they are canvas the color  won’t look dirty after a few days of travel.  For the white option, try this perforated version.

Thank you for your patience during my hiatus.  I look forward to sharing my favorite things for March and other lovely inspiration with you next week.

In the meantime, I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
