a 2017 reset

Well it’s almost February, and I am just getting to sharing my January thoughts with you.  I hope you had wonderful holidays and that your 2017 is off to a good start.  I took some time away from work at the beginning of the year to reset my mind, body, and home {especially my closets!}.  The end of the year is always so hectic both personally and professionally, I knew before I entered another busy season, I needed to take a step back and regroup.

Here are some of the elements that I’ve integrated into my routine to carry me through the year during the busy times for optimal health and mindfulness.

a-fresh-start-2017

1 | Two years ago, when I did a similar thing, I tossed all plastic storage containers from my home.  I have a few of these BKR water bottles, they are perfect for the gym, the office and the car, and alleviate drinking out of plastic bottles {for the sake of not wasting plastic and not drinking out of toxic plastic bottles}.

2 | I discovered the amazing blog and Instagram account of Alpha Foodie.  If you are a health foodie, do yourself a favor and check her out.  I’ve been drinking a lot of flavored water and discovered some amazing combinations via Samira’s blog. This lemon, ginger and mint combination has been my go to.  In the colder months straight water can be less appealing but it is so important to stay hydrated – flavoring your water can help you do that.

3  & 4 | My college roommate and {her mother} taught me so much about wellness far before it was trendy.  She recently introduced me to Young Living Essential Oils.  I had wanted to diffuser for my home so I opted for the starter kit to really learn about the benefits of different oils that I may not have previously been aware of, so that I can integrate them into my wellness routine.  In a short time, I have learned a great deal and discovered a few favorites. The one that has surprised me the most is this blend of Thieves which contains a potent combination of essential oils from clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary.  I drop 2 drops in my tea every night, use it in my diffuser to combat cold/flu and cleanse the air in my home, and also use it in a foot bath with epsom salts to help keep my immune system up when I feel depleted after a long work week.

5 | Activewear has evolved so much from a fashion standpoint.  There is so much more variety for  fabulous  pieces that will take you beyond the gym which is practical for when you want to run errands or even meet a friend for coffee post-gym.  I am loving this top for yoga and barre class {pair with these leggings}

6| Charcoal is excellent for pulling impurities out of water.  This glass bottle with charcoal looks great and will naturally purify water.  I love that it is as good looking as it is functional and that you can just leave the bottle out when hosting a dinner party for guests to help themselves.

7 | A few years ago I integrated meditation into my life and it has really changed my outlook as far as how I approach challenging situations and life overall.  As I continue to work on mindfulness, I opted for this planner for 2017.  It is a calendar and planner that is designed for you to put thought into what/how you want to feel.  How much time do we spend goal setting and trying to check things off our to do list?  By sitting down weekly with my to do list while putting thought into what I want to feel, keeps priorities, people I chose to spend time with, and my to do list aligned with what I want out of life. You’d be amazed at what ends up on your to do list and what does not when you approach it from this mindset.

So there you have it.  How about you, what are some of your favorite wellness | mindfulness tips that you plan to integrate into your 2017?

Stay warm and healthy!
